From one rack
to a whole bunch
Vintage Banana started as a single rack of hand-mended denim at the Sunday flea market — and a stubborn belief that the best things in your closet should have lived a little first.
The rack became a booth. The booth became a van. The van became the sunny little storefront on Peel Street, where the floor creaks in a friendly way and something new (well, old) shows up every single week. The name? An early customer said our yellow booth was "impossible to miss, like a banana in a fruit bowl full of apples." It stuck.
Today we sort, mend, test, and price every piece by hand. If a record skips, we say so. If a chair wobbles, it's fixed or it's firewood. Thrifting should feel like a treasure hunt — not a gamble.
Three things we believe
-
Good stuff deserves a second life. Every hanger in the shop is one less thing in a landfill, and one more story that keeps going.
-
Treasure hunting is for everyone. Prices stay honest so students, collectors, and curious wanderers all leave with something great.
-
A shop should feel like a neighbor. We know the regulars by name and the dogs by treat preference.
Where the good stuff comes from
Donations
Most of the shop walks in through the front door — neighbors clearing closets, families passing things on. Drop-offs are welcome every Saturday morning, and everything donated is sorted within the week.
Estate finds & consignment
The rare and the wonderful — teak credenzas, first pressings, grandma's brooch collection — often come from estate clear-outs and our small consignment program. Got something special? Bring it by; we'll talk.
